Between the covers, all our happy moments lie,
Crazy summers, and strange ideas in our minds.
Each time the book opens, emotions we live again.
Happy faces, strange expressions, poses of all kinds.
Four friends sitting on the bus, or in the street,
Romantic photos planned from much beforehand
Beside waterfalls, or thundering sea behind,
Or lying down, our dreams written on the sand.
Always the same four, posing with our arms
Around each other, calling other passers-by
To take the photo, of us four standing here
So this moment will be frozen here for life.
And standing dangerously on a high rocky cliff,
So this landscape wouldn't ever be forgotten,
And with other friends we share a one or two,
Oh, what memories are lying there at the bottom!
And then there are the other, crazier ones,
In impossible poses, but all show we're friends:
Someone playing dead on the floor, someone's bottom,
One searching in a bin, or losing the palm of the hand.
And with each phot there is the memory
Of all the happy moments that quickly fly.
And that photo of four friends laughing up there
Recalls the promise of the friendship never to die.
Yes, we were always taking pictures wherever we went
So that this friendship wouldn't ever be forgotten,
And neither the promise to be friends forever.
And now they're just memories lying at the bottom!
Because now we know how different this real life is.
Although there we're always laughing together,
And everyone can see that true friendship shining,
We know now that nothing can last forever.
Because someone always does forget them:
The emotions, the beauty and all that we shared,
And walks away on her own, without thinking
About it again, except when in a real need of care.
Then alone, you open up the album once again,
And you feel sorry for what to a friend you have done.
You realise it's all your fault, and you long again
For those great days of one-for-all-all-for-one.
You know it's too late, 'cos you were quick to forget,
But there's something which you quite don't see:
In those photos there's a past that you can live with no one
No matter with whom in the future you may be.

This one ios absolutely Beautiful!!!
Poignant and sad. But So full of the way Life really is. It brought tears to my eyes, just remembering my own past friends. And left me wishing I had one of those photo albums.....
Thank you Melissa for your comment. What I wrote about in this poem is about me, and three other friends that I grew up with, and we were always together up until our late teens. Then we started drifting off from each other, as life goes. We still try to meet up once a year, go for dinner, and have a night out - and all we end up talking about are the memories of those years.
Hi Lorianne!
Very beautiful writing, it's sad but like you say life goes on... I have 5 friends, and we are just like that, lol it's so funny because now I live in another county, but every time I go home (my country) we met and we talk and talk like if we have never being apart, there's till that confidence and that love for each other, it's really nice to know that they are always there for me, even when we are so far away. :D lol
anyway, I enjoyed your poem a lot, I think its beautiful, and I will certainly come back and read the rest.
